Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Students

Placement Dates: 15th June 2026 to 26th February 2027

Key Solutions Group (KSG) is an engineering, design and project management consultancy, servicing clients locally in Mackay, and throughout the Bowen Basin.

We are seeking motivated Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering students for 2026 placement opportunities.

This role offers hand-on exposure, to real-world engineering design, project management, and site-based operations across a diverse range of projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working alongside experienced engineers, designers, and drafters, you will assist with design, estimation, and project coordination tasks across projects ranging from equipment and plant design / fabrication to site-based overhauls and installations.

This opportunity is ideal for students with a strong interest in engineering design and project management who are eager to gain practical industry experience.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide engineering design support to achieve project objectives

  • Autodesk Inventor modelling and drafting of design concepts and As-Built drawings

  • Assist with project quotation and resource estimation

  • Liaise with clients to ensure design and project goals are achieved

  • Support project management activities, including scheduling tasks and resources

  • Provide hands-on assistance in the field as major projects come online

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Currently studying Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering

  • Strong interest in engineering design and project delivery

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team

  • Willingness to assist in both office and site environments
